It is one of the most advanced yet still fast-developing areas of modern engineering, aiming to assure automatic operation of complex engineering facilities/complexes in various environments, including conditions of uncertainty. The most typical examples of such systems are various types of unmanned aircraft, self-driving cars (autonomous vehicles), autonomous submarines, special-purpose jet sets, etc.
