A meeting of the Council for Youth Affairs of the CIS member states was held in Tashkent

On April 29-30, a meeting of the Council for Youth Affairs of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Tashkent in an off-line and on-line modes.

Not only the Council members attended the meeting, but also the representatives of the core organizations of the CIS member states for work with youth and the development of youth entrepreneurship, as well as the representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.

Behzod Musayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Akmal Saidov, First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan addressed the participants with the welcoming speech.

After listening to the presentation on the state youth policy in the Republic of Uzbekistan and the information about the youth infrastructure of Tashkent, the meeting participants noted that the international relations of Uzbekistan have become more active in working with youth, and the work of its representatives in the Council has intensified.

The members of the Council discussed their participation in the events to implement the Concept for Further Development of the CIS and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth. The participants in the Forum received a gift of a collection of works dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Council for Youth Affairs.

The meeting also discussed the progress in carrying out the medium-term action plans for the implementation of the Strategy for International Youth Cooperation of the CIS Member States and the Concept for the Development of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Support of the Youth Volunteer Movement. The meeting participants noted the effective completion of the planned implementation of the Strategy for the period until 2020, noting the expansion and intensification of cooperation between different groups of young people in the Commonwealth countries, the strengthening of multilateral and bilateral interaction in working with youth. At the same time, it was noted that in the Commonwealth countries, in the context of restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the scale of multidimensional events with the participation of young people in the online format has expanded. The participants also emphasized the need to support and develop such a format in future while maintaining the pre-crisis volume of offline events.

It was decided to hold the final events of the International Youth Project of the CIS Member States 100 Ideas for the CIS in October this year in the city of Kapan, the Youth Capital of Armenia in 2020-2021. The members of the Council agreed to organize the event twice in 2021 for it is much in demand with the youth Forum of youth public organizations of the CIS member states: the first event is to be hosted by the city of Grodno – the Youth capital of the Republic of Belarus, and the second – in the Republic of Tajikistan. This year the International Youth Forum of the CIS member states on the Sustainable Development Goals is to be held in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation.

The meeting approved on the whole the draft Regulation on the Youth Capital of the CIS International Project, which is supposed to be submitted to the highest bodies of the Commonwealth in accordance with the established procedure.

The members of the Council discussed the issues relating to a joint sociological survey of the CIS member states in 2021-2022 to study the situation with youth and the implementation of the Youth Envoys of the Sustainable Development Goals Program in the Commonwealth countries.

Traditionally, representatives of the core organizations of the CIS member states for the development of youth entrepreneurship and work with youth spoke at the meeting about their activities, including those relating to the implementation of the instructions of the Council.

The next regular meeting of the Council is scheduled for October this year to be held in the city of Kapan (Republic of Armenia). It was also decided to support and work out the proposal of the Republic of Tajikistan to hold an extraordinary joint meeting of the Council and of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its Youth Council in August 2021 in Dushanbe.
