On November 21, the Institute of International Education (IIE) held a festive evening dedicated to International Students’ Day —”Students of the World at RTU MIREA.” The event brought together students from various countries, celebrating the friendship, talents, and cultural diversity that define student life in Russia.
The celebration opened with a poetry reading by Sohbet Kakabaev from Turkmenistan, who recited verses on the most valuable things in life: love, friendship, and youth. Following that, immersing the audience in vibrant traditions of African culture, Marie-Louise Ngalassom from Cameroon performed an energetic traditional Bikutsi dance.
A particularly touching moment was the joint recitation of Eduard Asadov’s poem “Students,” with the first part performed by Sidra Al Mulhem from Syria and the second by Yulduzhan Shakulova from Turkmenistan. Their shared recitation embodied the borderless spirit of student creativity.
Adding warmth and energy to the program was a short film by Furkan Onat, a student from Turkey, in which he interviewed Muscovites about their views on the Russian language: whether they considered it difficult, what advice they could give to international students, and which specialties they believed were the most sought-after among foreign applicants.
The quiz “Student Traditions of the World,” prepared by Vietnamese student Bui Nguyen Za Hieu, was quite an intellectual challenge. Participants showcased their erudition and won well-deserved prizes. The concert concluded with a speech by Kasoka Liisa from Namibia.
All participants received commemorative certificates of appreciation for their creative contributions and activity.
The evening reaffirmed that student life is a unique time of discovery, friendship, shared creativity, energy and unity — qualities that make the world a better place.
