On November 19, students of the RTU MIREA Institute of International Education from six countries played an active role in the annual academic and practical conference “Young Media,” organized by the Higher School of Economics (HSE), a national research university. The “Young Media” conference is traditionally held by the HSE Media Institute and is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students interested or engaged in media research and development. It is an important platform for discussing current trends and challenges in the media and communications. In his welcoming address, Director of the HSE Media Institute Ernest G. Matskyavichus thanked the international guests for their interest and participation.
The event brought together more than 200 students, postgraduates, and young scholars from some of Russia’s leading universities — among them HSE, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, RTU MIREA, Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University — as well as media industry professionals, including practicing journalists and analysts.
The IIE students — Al Mulhem Sidra (Syria), Darya Mutovkina (Kazakhstan), Edem Ibragimov (Uzbekistan), Ahmed Kasim Ahmed Abdulgafar (Iran), Nguyen Anh Khoa (Vietnam), and Imran Mahamat Mustafa (Chad) — presented reports at the Intercultural Communications section, sharing their experiences and perspectives on the media spaces of their respective countries. All participating students received certificates, and their papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
By addressing topics such as the mediatization of intercultural communication and the preservation of national traditions and cultural trends, the students engaged in lively discussions within the multicultural environment of the conference, bringing a distinctive intercultural dimension to the debates.
The students’ research supervisors were faculty members of the IIE Department of Russian as a Foreign Language: Zhanna Olegovna Moskvina, Fatima Soslanovna Makoyeva, and Tatyana Alexandrovna Pavlova.
