International conference on Technologies Development in honor of 70 anniversary of MIREA

24.04.2017
The conference "Technologies: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow", arranged by Moscow Technological University, brought together the representatives of the companies from innovative branches of economy. The participants congratulated the University on its anniversary, discussed their plans of cooperation, and shared views of the Russian science future.

On April 19, the hall of the academic council of the campus in 78 Vernadsky Ave., housed the international conference devoted to the interaction of high technologies and education. After the greeting of Stanislav A. Kudzh, University Rector, Alexander S. Sigov, University President, acquainted the guests with the history of MIREA. The audience could track the stages of its formation: from the correspondence training of engineers in 1947 and the first discovery made to the modern researches and growing investments. The formula of success of the higher education institution: "education + science + production", became the title topic of the meeting.

University Partners

The conference was continued by invited speakers, who told about their companies and joint projects. The first was Galina V. Smirnova, Head of the Russian representative office of the American organization Keysight Technologies. Separated from Hewlett-Packard, the organization produces industrial measuring devices used in the production of electronic devices in more than 100 countries around the world, they accompany all stages of production from design to field tests. The company independently develops microcircuits for its products, so human capital is given special attention. For its constant replenishment, Keysight actively works with universities and trains young specialists. The interaction forms cover the allocation of grants, promotion of research, as well as internships and personnel retraining. The cooperation with Moscow Technological University has begun recently: in the fall of 2016, the University received 52 educational licenses for 6 software packages. The next step was taken directly at the conference: the solemn signing of the Partnership Agreement, including the creation of joint laboratories and the conduct of scientific events.

When asked about her own vision of the science development, Galina V. Smirnova singled out technology 5G, Internet of things and "smart" cars as the main vectors on the world level. According to her, the use and modification of open source software would help import substitution in the Russian market.

The next report was devoted to the creation of hardware and software platforms for information systems. JSC "NIIAA" represented by Herman A. Ohanyan, Deputy Director General for Scientific Work, presented his approach to their formation. By dividing the architecture of IP into 4 aspects, and software development into 3 levels depending on their depth, the University optimizes systems to extend their life cycle and simplify management. Bearing the name of V. S. Semenikhin, one of the "founding fathers" of MIREA, the Institute goes hand in hand with the University since its foundation.

Commenting on the situation in his industry, Herman A. Ohanyan celebrates the talent of the students-engineers. They repeatedly win the competitions of programmers in Moscow. The domestic developments - both processors and application programs - correspond to the world level. At the same time, he emphasizes the need to create their own systems for ensuring the safety of data processing and testing them in real conditions. The work in this direction is already underway, and this is especially important, since the customers of JSC "NIIAA" are the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The meeting was continued by the presentation of the Head of the Social Innovations Development Center "Technology of Opportunities", which develops solutions for favorable living conditions of people with disabilities. Ivan V. Biryukov, General Director, told about models of selection and promotion of the best projects. The first step is scholarships and grants for promising ideas, the implementation of which is overseen by their own scientific supervisors. Further, "Solution space" is responsible for organizational and marketing support for young industry enterprises. The action, which doubles crowdfunding, collected through the portal planeta.ru, facilitates their entry into the market. Finally, newly released developments are tested at the site “Polygon”. The selected projects are participating in thematic exhibitions and are already bringing the first contracts to the authors.

As the main trends of the Russian science, contributing to the progress in the social sphere, Ivan V. Biryukov called virtual and augmented reality, "smart home" systems, bioengineering technologies and neurocomputer interfaces. The Center cooperates with MIREA in these areas: joint R & D is carried out, the students are involved in hackathons, getting sometimes grants and scholarships.

JSC “Concern" Vega "”, where the Base Department of Instrument Engineering of MIREA is located, made a review of the radar equipment it produces. The report was made by Boris G. Tatarsky, Director of the educational center of Concern "Vega". He described the advantages of air and space based systems and compared their characteristics with other known radars. Among the capabilities of the devices there were listed not only military, but also civilian tasks, for example, the escort of ships and icebreakers, localization of aircraft accidents or typhoons. Assessing the state of the domestic industry, Boris G. Tatarsky noted that in the electronics industry the level of development not only is in line with the international one, but in certain areas even surpasses it.

The series of reports was completed by Sergey S. Sapozhnikov, Head of the Department of Organizational and Personnel Work in Public Authorities of the Management and Strategic Development of Organizations Institute. Having acquainted the audience with the peculiarities of developing professional standards of education, he illustrated them with successful cases from his own practice.

70 years is just the beginning

Having discussed the prospects of high-tech industries of the Russian science, the speakers congratulated MIREA on its anniversary: the conference was held on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the University's formation. Ivan V. Biryukov from "Development Technologies" noted that this age could be considered the University youth, and wished for new achievements accompanying the transition to the mature life. Keysight Technologies stated the value of the beneficial atmosphere for talented students’ training: competencies and personal qualities of teachers. Boris G. Tatarsky, representing the Educational Center of "Concern" Vega ", joined the congratulations, expressing hope for further development of fundamental education within the University.

The plenary session of the scientific and technical conference "Technologies: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" was the first large-scale event dedicated to the anniversary of MIREA, and opened a program of sectional meetings that would be held during a month.
