Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies is opening the Catalysis-2021 School

17.09.2021

On September 15, Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies opened the Catalysis-2021 School. This event was held within the framework of the Catalysis Research School registered in RTU MIREA and organized by the Department of General Chemical Technology and the Department of Physical Chemistry named after Ya.K. Syrkin. The academic sessions of the school will be held every month on a regular basis. The program Catalysis-2021 School includes lectures by prominent scientists-catalysts in various areas of catalysis and related areas.

Over 70 guests attended the event: among them students, postgraduates and employees of Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies, as well as guests from partner organizations

  • LLC Orgneftekhim-Holding
  • A.V. Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis, RAS
  • Faculty of Chemistry, Lomonosov Moscow State University
  • N.N. Semenov Federal Research Center for Chemical Physics Russian Academy of Sciences
  • N.D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences
  • N.S. Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences
  • D.I. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology, and others

The heads of the school science, professors Lev Grigorievich Brook and Vitaly Rafailovich Flid, opened the meeting of the Catalysis-2021 School. Then a lecture by Professor Oleg Naumovich Tyomkin followed on the topic “Development of research in the field of catalysis at Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies”. He spoke about the origin and main development stages of this school of science which has been actively working for 75 years.

O.N. Tyomkin’s research and pedagogical activity, which lasted 65-year, began in his student years and is inextricably linked with the study of catalytic processes. In 1958, he graduated from Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies and since then worked at the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Basic Organic Synthesis. The list of his scholarly publications includes seven authorly and collective monographs, about 400 research articles and reviews. He has co-authored over 60 copyright certificates and patents.

Oleg Naumovich is an excellent educator and a brilliant lecturer. He has participated in the training of thousands of specialists in the technology of basic organic and petrochemical synthesis. 45 candidate dissertations were defended under his guidance, three co-fellows of Oleg Naumovich became doctors of sciences and professors. The scholar is a person of great erudition and a wide range of interests, culture and intellect, open to new ideas and scientific discovery and innovation. But the main quality of Oleg Naumovich is optimism and faith in the potential of chemistry, the quintessence of which is catalysis.

Within the framework of the Catalysis-2021 School, the Young Catalyst School of Scientists was organized for undergraduate and graduate students. The school program includes lectures and conversations with prominent specialists, practical traning in laboratories. The best students will have the opportunity to work in research groups of the departments of general chemical technology and physical chemistry.

The next lecture within the framework of the Catalysis-2021 School will take place in October. Detailed information about the date and place of the lecture will be available on the website and in the official group of the Institute in VKontakte social network

To participate in the Catalysis-2021 School get registered with the group (if you filled out the form at the first lecture, you do not need to reregister):
