RTU MIREA Teams Advance to ICPC Quarterfinals

27.10.2025

On October 12, the Moscow Regional Contest Qualifier 2025 (MRCQ 2025), also known as the 1/8 round of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), took place in Moscow and towns of Moscow Oblast. RTU MIREA served as one of the official host sites, welcoming 49 three-person university student teams. As many as five RTU MIREA teams walked away as prize winners and earned spots in the next stage.

The second-place diploma went to the team “MIREA: flying above the wave of expulsions,” consisting of two students from the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and one from the Institute of Information Technologies:

  • Eduard Isakov
  • Sergei Kiryakov
  • Kirill Kobets

They solved 10 problems, including two in the final hour, which practically locked in their advancement.

Two other teams each solved 8 problems and took home third-place diplomas:

“MIREA: There is an idea, but there are no proofs”

  • Maksim Khovansky
  • Sarmat Skaev
  • Danila Chikunov

“MIREA: This name already exists”

  • Kirill Petrov
  • Andrei Ishutin
  • Vladislav Nevsky

Two more RTU MIREA teams, each solving 7 problems, also earned third-place honors and qualified for the next round:

“MIREA: is undefined”

  • Rostislav Kurilenko
  • Roman Tolstov
  • Yaroslav Mikhailenko

“MIREA: KLMno”

  • Kirill Solovyov
  • Lev Demidovs
  • Makar Vashurkin

Congratulations to all the winners and their coaches on this incredible achievement: never before has RTU MIREA had five teams advance from the qualifying round in a single year. We wish them every success in the next round!

Apart from RTU MIREA, the qualifier was held at top universities across the capital, including the Higher School of Economics, the Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Bauman Moscow State Technological University, with over 600 teams (more than 1,800 students) competing. Each team had just one computer and five hours to solve 13 algorithmic problems of varying difficulty, racing not only for correctness but for speed.

The next stage, the quarterfinals, is already on the horizon: the top 120 teams from the qualifier will compete in Skolkovo on November 23.

We are grateful to everyone who made the RTU MIREA contest site run smoothly: organizers, volunteers, tech staff, and supporters. Good luck in everything and see you at the next round! Our special thanks go to the RTU MIREA coaches for training such high-class teams: we are looking forward to your future wins!
