The RTU MIREA Chamber Choir became the winner of the 1st International Choral Competition "Riga Sings"
13.05.2019
The 1st International Choir Competition Riga Sings and the Imants Kokars Choir Prize, events organized by INTERKULTUR and the Riga City Council Association of Cultural Institutions, were held in the capital of Latvia between May 1 and 5.
In 2014 and in 2017 Riga already hosted the World Choir Games: the Grand Prix of the Nations and the European Choir Games. Therefore, though Riga Sings competition was held for the first time in Riga, the level of the participating choirs was very high, and each team had its original and unique features that allowed the competition to turn into an unusually impressive journey through the world of music.
All in all, 31 teams from Latvia, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Belarus, Slovenia, Italy, Turkey and Japan took part in the competition.
The RTU MIREA Chamber Choir performed in two nominations: in the program of sacred (church) music and in competitions for chamber mixed choirs, where the maximum number of choir members should not exceed 30 people. In the nomination Sacred Music the choir of our University got a silver diploma award, and in the nomination Chamber choirs it received the "gold", thus becoming the winner of the competition and receiving glowing reviews from the jury and other participants in the festival.
This result was achieved only due to the coordinated effort of all the team members, the emotional contribution of each and everybody and intensive energy-consuming training.
Over these five days in May, Riga turned into a real site of friendship for all those who are willing to sing and develop professionally: students talked on an equal footing with adult choir members, had fun and performed together with members of children's choirs. Such contests each time clearly demonstrate that the main achievement is neither the victory, nor participation, but the team spirit, love for music and openness to everything new and original.
Hearty congratulations to the winners!
