On the campus at 86 Vernadsky Avenue, in auditorium K-3, the ⅩⅢ Lomonosov Readings were held dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Department of Physical Chemistry named after Y.K. Syrkin.
This year, the Lomonosov Readings were combined with a meeting of the School of Catalysis of RTU MIREA, during which scientific reports were made by Professor L.G. Brook, head of the Department of General Chemical Technology, Professor A.F. Schmidt, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Rector of Irkutsk State University, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences M.V. Grishin, Deputy Director for Science and Research of the Federal Research Center “Institute of Chemical Physics named after N.N. Semenov, RAS.
XⅢ Lomonosov Readings is one of the events in the anniversary cycle held by the Department of Physical Chemistry named after Y.K. Syrkin. The ceremonial events take place over three days and cover various areas of the department’s work: from the activities of the department’s history museum to academic lectures.
On the same day, the grand opening of the K-4 lecture hall named after Yakov Kivovich Syrkin, an outstanding scientist, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the department of physical chemistry from 1931 to 1974, author of fundamental works on the structure of molecules and chemical bonds, took place. The right to cut the ribbon was given to Alexander Fedorovich Schmidt, the guest of honor of the anniversary celebrations, Rector of Irkutsk State University.
On November 17, the anniversary celebrations on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the first department of physical chemistry in Russia continued in the format of a meeting, during which the head of the department, Vitaly Rafailovich Flid, gave a lecture “Two centuries of the department of physical chemistry: from its origins to the present day.”
