On May 28, students of the Institute of International Education from Azerbaijan, Algeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Vietnam, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Namibia, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey had a tour of the Moscow Zoo.
The students got to learn the history of one of the oldest zoological parks in Europe, which turned 159 this year. Opened in the heart of the capital, thanks to the petitions of A.P. Bogdanov, Professor of the Moscow State University, the zoo became the first zoological park in the world in a country with such a cold climate. The history of the zoo is closely intertwined with the history of the city: during the tour, students learned how the zoo survived during the October Revolution of 1917 and the Great Patriotic War, about the dedication of the park staff, and the stories of its inhabitants.
Students explored the entire exposition of the living museum with the area of 21.4 hectares. The collection of animals of the Moscow Zoo, which includes 1,267 species of animals and 10,531 individual species, certainly impressed the foreign students.
