Remembrance Day Poetry Recitation Contest at Institute of International Education
26.06.2025
On June 20, the RTU MIREA Institute of International Education held an international poetry recitation contest dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, marking the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. The event provided foreign students with a meaningful opportunity to connect with an important chapter of Russian history through poetry.
Participants from Angola, Zimbabwe, Chad, and Turkmenistan each prepared and recited a poem by renowned Russian wartime poets such as Anna Akhmatova, Alexander Tvardovsky, and Olga Berggolts. For many, the contest was not only a chance to practice and improve their language skills, such as correct pronunciation and intonation, but also a personal discovery, as they worked to convey the mood and meaning of the poems.
After the competition, students were given a short guided tour of an exhibition dedicated to RTU MIREA students and staff who lived through and participated in the events of World War II.
The event concluded with a lively discussion, where students shared their impressions, asked questions, and explored the historical context and biographies of the poets. Such events help international students gain a deeper understanding of Russian culture and history, foster dialogue, and encourage personal engagement within the university’s educational environment.
