RTU MIREA became partner of the 78th Venice Film Festival

For the second year running MIREA – Russian Technological University acts as a technical partner of the virtual reality section of the 78th Venice Film Festival. The world’s best VR projects will be demonstrated to Moscow viewers from September 1 to September 19 at MMOMA – the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

The installation of equipment and technical support of the film festival is provided by the staff of the laboratory of multimedia technologies of the Institute of Information Technologies of RTU MIREA. On the site, the University staff will provide technical support helping visitors to feel comfortable in virtual reality with the help of HTC, VIVE, HTCVIVЕ Pro and Оculus Quest helmets.

The viewers will see 37 immersive films from 21 countries. 23 projects are included in the competition program (In Competition category). Their authors will compete for three Venice International Film Festival statuettes: Grand Prix for Best VR Work, Best VR Experience and Best VR Story. Another 12 works are included in the Best Of VR category - the best VR works that have already been presented to the viewers earlier. This year will also showcase a project created within the VR College of the Venice Biennale.

Stanislav Alekseevich Kudzh, Rector of RTU MIREA, noted: “VR is becoming an integral part of the fast-growing content industry. It is in this area that we expect large-scale growth and development. Virtual and augmented reality technologies are already used today not only in the entertainment industry, but also in applied industries, such as education and medicine. As a technical partner of the festival for the second year, we want to give an additional impetus to the development of the industry in Russia and show what this technology is already capable of ”.
