On October 26, Samsung Electronics summed up the results of the Sixth Annual Competition among graduates of the social and educational project “Samsung IT Academy” in the live broadcast.
At the finals, 11 of the strongest projects implemented by students from the “Artificial Intelligence”, “Mobile Development”, “Internet of Things” and “Big Data” tracks from 7 universities of Russia were presented to the public: RTU MIREA (Moscow), National Research University Higher School of Economics (Moscow), KSU (Kursk), Northern Federal University (Arkhangelsk), Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk), UrFU (Ekaterinburg), South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk). Projects competed not only for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, but also for special nominations “Viewer's Choice” and “Samsung's Choice”. Samsung Electronics also presented the nominations “University of the Year”, “Teacher of the Year” and “Mentor of the Year”.
Second place in the project competition was awarded for the development of “Smart Chess” by the Institute of Information Technologies of RTU MIREA, implemented by Artyom Vadimovich Shendyapin and Alexey Leonidovich Shkerin. The team presented a Smart Chess Board, which allows to play on the Internet through the popular LiChess server, as well as compete with an AI algorithm. The team leaders are Alexander Maksimovich Levandrovsky and Ivan Alexandrovich Yurchenkov, employees of the Institute of Information Technologies of RTU MIREA.
The nomination “Teacher of the Year” went to Pavel Valerievich Stepanov, professor of the “Mobile Development” track at the Institute of Information Technologies RTU MIREA.
In the “University of the Year” nomination, by unanimous decision of the jury, the winner was RTU MIREA, one of the first partners of the Samsung IT Academy.
RTU MIREA has already been awarded “University of the Year” (2020) and “Teacher of the Year” (2022), but never before has any other university received both nominations at once.
We congratulate the Institute of Information Technologies on the success achieved and wish its staff to further expand the application of materials from the Samsung Academy and Samsung Innovation Campus in the educational and project activities of students.
The Samsung IT Academy program has been implemented since 2017 as part of the global initiative Samsung Innovation Campus – a long-term free social and educational project of Samsung Electronics to train future specialists in the most popular IT areas: artificial intelligence, Internet of things, mobile development and big data. The Samsung IT Academy training tracks, developed by Samsung specialists, are based on mastering in-demand practical skills during project activities. By the end of the academic year, graduates of the Samsung IT Academy independently develop individual projects and, upon successful completion of the program, receive a certificate from Samsung. The educational program “Samsung IT Academy” was given the “Best Social Projects in Russia” award, and the Samsung Innovation Campus project was awarded the Runet Prize, the most prestigious award on the Russian Internet in the “Education and Personnel” category.
