On July 2, representatives from RTU MIREA joined online the latest session of the Council on Youth Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which took place in the CIS Youth Capital, the city of Gabala, Azerbaijan.
The meeting brought together Council members from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Also present were representatives from key CIS organizations focused on youth engagement, youth entrepreneurship, volunteer initiatives, and the scientific and methodological support of youth volunteerism, as well as the CIS Executive Committee.
The agenda included 12 topics, among them the activities of RTU MIREA as the CIS anchor organization for youth work. RTU MIREA’s First Vice-Rector, Nikolai Ivanovich Prokopov, summed up the anchor organization’s events and projects in 2024 and outlined its plans for 2025.
Dmitry Alekseyevich Bunkin, Director of the RTU MIREA Institute for Youth Policy and International Relations, spoke about several projects in the pipeline:
RTU MIREA was commended for the Glossary of CIS Youth Policy Terms and Concepts it has drafted. This draft has been approved by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly’s Standing Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights and is set to be presented at the IPA plenary session later in 2025.
The next Council meeting and the finals of the international project “100 Ideas for CIS” will take place in Astana in October 2025.
Reminder: Since June 7, 2016, RTU MIREA has held the status of the CIS anchor organization for youth work, as decided by the CIS Council of Heads of Government. The RTU MIREA Institute for Youth Policy and International Relations is in charge of organization and logistical support for the anchor organization’s working and advisory bodies. By decision of the Council, its members—representatives from both the government and nongovernment youth policy sectors of CIS countries—are part of the Public Council of the anchor organization.
