At the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, with the support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, 15th All-Russian Olympiad on Russian as a Foreign Language was held. The contest gathered more than 80 students from higher educational institutions from 12 cities of Russia. The participants of nineteen teams represented a record number of countries - 31. The Olympics was held in the Year of Ecology, so the theme was: "Russia is a country of different climatic zones." MIREA was represented by technical students: Martin Chayo Fernandez from Equatorial Guinea, Inol Berdalya Ngumba from Congo and Han Thi Chuong from Vietnam.

Themes of presentation projects of the students of our University:

Martin Chayo Fernandez, 2nd year Bachelor's degree student: "Natural zones of Russia". The presentation met the requirements of scientific nature and at the same time contained a large amount of illustrative material that corresponded to the description of the main types of Russian climate, natural areas, including a survey of the characteristic landscape, flora, fauna and seasonal features. A comparative analysis of Russia's climate with the equatorial climate of Guinea aroused a keen interest of those present.

Inol Berdalya Ngumba, 2 year Bachelor's degree student: "Climatic zones of Russia". The student gave a brief structured description of each climatic zone, emphasized the attention of viewers to the necessity of nature protection (reserves, reserves, national parks of Russia) and offered an original introduction and conclusion of her work. In the beginning she demonstrated a video with photographs of various out-of-class activities of the Russian Language Department (as a Foreign Language), held at different times of the year (the soundtrack was the melody of the song "There is no bad weather" from the Soviet film "Office Romance"). In conclusion, the student offered to discuss the phenomenon of the polar aurora, for which she brought to the attention of the participants an excerpt from the Russian-language animated film "Smeshariki" about the polar night.

Han Thi Chuong, 2nd year Master's degree student: "Rice cultivation in Russia and Vietnamese street food". She prepared a report on the diversity of Russian climatic conditions and on specific geographical regions of Russia where, thanks to a long and warm summer, rice culture is grown in the same way as in Southeast Asia. Particular attention in the report was given to the possibility of using Russian rice for cooking Vietnamese dishes on the territory of Russia. The participant also made a high-quality video clip, in which recipes of Vietnamese cuisine were presented.

According to the participants of the event, it was an unforgettable experience, which they would like to repeat. During the training they expanded their vocabulary, learned new terms, learned to compose scientific style texts in Russian, correctly understood assignments, etc. At the concert, foreign students demonstrated their talents and each shared a part of the culture of their country, friendship relations were established between students of different nations. The students of the International Education Institute expressed gratitude to I.S. Solunova, Deputy First Vice-Rector, and SS. Gulyants, their team leader, for the opportunity to participate in the Olympics. The event became a real holiday for the students and made it possible to show the level of Russian language proficiency, to broaden their horizons, to learn a lot about the country they study in, to make new friends from all over the world thanks to numerous interactive activities: games, a quiz, discussions, a concert.
