The International Student Theatre "Postscriptum" of the Institute of International Education of the Russian Technical University MIREA staged a performance based on the famous work of A.S. Pushkin "The Tale of the Priest and His Workman Balda" on the stage of the Small Concert Hall. Students from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Russia performed a modern comedy on stage, managing to preserve the unique flavor of everyday life and speech of the 19th century. Zhanna Olegovna Moskvina, director, associate professor of the Department of the Russian Language (as a Foreign Language), managed to weave new plot lines into the canvas of the traditional narrative of the fairy tale, introducing new characters invented by the scriptwriter.

The famous tale was told by A.S. Pushkin and the buffoons, who skillfully combined humor, Pushkin's mischief and the buffoonish traditions of the Russian people. The interpretation of the scene of the seabed, from whose inhabitants Balda had to collect a full quitrent, looked particularly funny. The devils and the inhabitants of the water kingdom appeared on stage: fish disturbed during the underwater meeting, and even a mermaid who made a real mix up of all the fairy tales. Bright, skillful images of a greedy priest and the witty priest's wife, cunning Balda, a naive and stupid old general, a businesslike matchmaker, a rebellious priest's daughter and even a horse that was carried on the back of a little devil, were played beautifully by the actors of the troupe. The performance proved to be cheerful, dynamic, memorable and wise.
