The RTU MIREA Titans team is ready to enter the fighting ring of the Robot Battle, which will take place on October 26 in Yekaterinburg. The championship is a large-scale event with the participation of the best inventors of the country. In the course of the event the best engineering minds will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and compete for a prize fund of 6.6 million rubles.
Titans is a team of engineers from RTU MIREA. Students of the Department of Control Problems of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, members of the SSS III are designing a WarBot flipper robot with a throwing capacity of five tons. The RTU MIREA Titans team has been working on the WarBot robot since February to make it even more powerful for the upcoming battle. The team's partner is PJSC Rostelecom.
According to Alexey Valenkov, captain of the Titans team, various resources were involved in creating the robot: “The final assembly of the robot was carried out prior to the first battle in Yekaterinburg. In particular, our colleagues from the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Elastomer Processing named after F.F. Koshelev helped us with filling up the wheels and choosing the brand of polyurethane. The M.V. Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies of RTU MIREA conducted experiments with the adhesion of polyurethane to aluminum. An important aspect of the experiment included testing the reliability of the robot, especially its chassis. It is also important to take into account the strength of the frame and structure, as well as the power of the tool. There are many types of tools, including spinners and flippers. Our robot is a flipper type and uses a hydraulic system instead of a traditional pneumatic system.”
The championship has two categories of competitions: Battle of Robots and Battle of Mini-Robots. This season, 64 teams are participating in the main category and 32 teams in the mini-version.
The tournament includes three stages. The first stage was held on September 28 in Moscow with the support of the Moscow Government. 48 teams from both categories participated in it, 16 of which reached the semi-finals. Dmitry Tatarinov, senior lecturer of the RTU MIREA Fryazino branch, captain of the Istok Robotics team, shared the news that the team had successfully reached the semi-finals and were preparing for the decisive battle to take place on November 23 in Mytishchi.
The second stage was scheduled for October 26 in Yekaterinburg. 48 teams were to take part in it. The final stage will be held on November 23 in Mytishchi with the support of the Moscow Region Government. 32 teams will take part in it.
An important feature of the tournament is the exchange of experience between participants, which contributes to the development of robotics in the country and attracts young people to the engineering field.
