The TESLA Educational and Research Center (ERC) for Radio Wave Technologies is a megalaboratory operated by the Department of Radio Wave Processes and Technologies at the Institute of Radio Electronics and Informatics. The center serves as a multifunctional educational and research RnD facility, uniquely equipped with state-of-the-art radio measurement instrumentation from Rohde & Schwarz. It functions as a hub for scientific research and practical training of development engineers engaged in hardware-software co-design of radio-electronic devices at the system, circuit, and software-defined levels.
The TESLA ERC is used for research and training of students for future careers in the development of communication, detection and ranging, navigation, telemetry and radio monitoring systems and modules; microwave transceiver modules; microwave and millimeter-wave antennas and AESAs (active electronically scanned arrays); radio control systems; and automated data acquisition and processing complexes. Students acquire expertise by using radio test and measurement equipment and setups incorporating onboard modules and components supplied by leading enterprises in the radio electronics industry.
The TESLA center’s operations are supported by RTU MIREA’s industrial partner, OOO RSh Tekh, a major metrology RnD center and the only service operator of Rohde & Schwarz equipment in Russia.
The TESLA ERC comprises four specialized educational and research laboratories:
The TESLA ERC spans radio engineering activities in creating the full range of electronic, telecommunications, and embedded solutions in the following domains: signal conversion, reception, and digital processing based on MCU/DSP/FPGA architectures; SDR technologies; microwave modules, antenna systems and PPM (printed planar module) AESAs; power electronics; sensors and interfaces; communication, radio control, and navigation; telemetry monitoring networks and devices.
