RTU MIREA Students Shine at International Winter School in China

21.01.2026

From January 3 to 16, ten RTU MIREA students took part in the International Winter School of the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), which annually brings together participants from around the world.

The Winter School program aims to develop students' real-world skills, support their professional and scientific aspirations, and strengthen intercultural ties.

For two weeks, participants underwent intensive English-language training in artificial intelligence, global leadership, and intelligent robotics. They attended lectures, seminars, and master classes. The cultural program was equally packed and exciting: students explored the modern megacity of Zhuhai, Chinese culture and history.

The school wrapped up with a formal closing ceremony and certificate presentation. The International Winter School became a platform for advancing technical expertise and exchange of experiences among talented young people from different countries.

Here are impressions shared by some of the participants:

Vladimir Cherenkov (Group RKMO-01-25, Institute of Radioelectronics and Informatics):

The Intelligent Robotics Engineering Winter Program at BIT was an invaluable professional experience for me. The entire course was built on a hands-on approach: we dove into CAD and CAE systems, with theory serving as a tool for solving specific engineering problems. Our crowning achievement was the final project, where we implemented an innovative solution — a complete system consisting of a surface buoy, a UAV, and an all-terrain vehicle. Experts recognized our project as the best, and our team, the only one among 40, had the honor of presenting it to BIT leadership and all participants at the closing ceremony. I am immensely grateful to RTU MIREA for giving me this opportunity to complete a practice-oriented robotics program in China!

Yulia Martynova (Group RKBO-02-23, Institute of Radioelectronics and Informatics):

I completed the Intelligent Robotics Engineering Winter Program. What stood out most were the hands-on sessions where we programmed a robot in a simulator and performed strength calculations. Our training capped with a final presentation. Our team was honored to present at the closing ceremony. I especially want to note that the Winter School included students from various countries. This made it possible for me to make new friends from all over the world. This trip was an invaluable experience for me. I am endlessly grateful to RTU MIREA for this opportunity!

Varvara Shutova (Group KMBO-21-25, Institute of Artificial Intelligence):

This was my first trip to China. I chose the Artificial Intelligence Winter Program. The trip opened up the world of bustling megacities for me, but the real treasure was friends from around the world — fellow students and volunteers with whom it was easy to communicate in English. I befriended students from China, Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, and Ethiopia. Everyone was very friendly and willingly shared their study experiences in other countries. This program changed my view of education and inspired me to go on an exchange program to BIT for a full semester, reinforcing my belief that the future belongs to those who study, try new things, and connect with people worldwide.

Artyom Bezyazychny (Group IKBO-50-23, Institute of Information Technologies):

I spent the winter holidays in China, studying in the Artificial Intelligence Winter Program. In our free time between classes, we walked around and explored Zhuhai. It’s a beautiful, sunny seaside spot with lots of interesting places and sights. The biggest plus for me was meeting people from different corners of the world. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about various cultures and countries. Words can’t convey all the feelings and emotions I experienced; you have to try it yourself!
