On September 20, at the invitation of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianopolis, Brazil, Associate Professor of Foreign Languages Lyudmila Ivanovna Baturina and Associate Professor Eduard Patrakov of Urals Federal University delivered two online lectures as part of the annual PROFNIT Open University session.
The PROFNIT Open University in Brazil has been operating for several years. Its concept is to provide an opportunity for all those with at least a bachelor's degree to enhance their qualifications or discover new areas of knowledge. Professors, experts, and successful businesspeople from Brazil and abroad are invited as lecturers to share their experience and knowledge free of charge.
One of the session organizers, Professor of International Economy Fred Leite Campos of UFSC, who is Lyudmila Baturina’s co-author, is a true friend of Russia who contributes a lot to fostering cooperation between the two countries.
Lyudmila Baturina holds Candidate of Science degrees in sociopsycholinguistics and philology and has extensive expertise in various international business fields. This is the second time she participates in such sessions. Last year, she spoke to attendees about the importance of the humanities and opportunities for education in Russia. The session was co-hosted by Marcelo Bölker, the first secretary of the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow.
This year’s session focused on innovation. Lyudmila Baturina’s lecture, titled “The Role of the Narrative in Innovation: the Russian Innovation System,” was delivered in Portuguese. The lecture was well received and its recording was recommended for viewing to post-graduate students at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Brazil. It covered such topics as the importance of building a narrative in adopting innovation, a historical analysis of case studies involving narratives from Russia, the UAE, the USA, China, and Brazil, and the strengths and weaknesses of the Russian innovation system. Additionally, students learned about our outstanding university and the engaging history of the M.V. Lomonosov Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies.
